Finnair is establishing itself at Umeå Airport with two new destinations from March 29. The airline is opening daily departures to Vaasa and Helsinki, giving Västerbotten residents new direct connections to Finland.

The route is operated as a triangular flight between Umeå, Vaasa, and Helsinki with daily departures. The solution suits both travelers from Umeå who want to go to Finland and local travelers between the two Gulf of Bothnia cities.

With this investment, Finnair is responding to demand for flight connections to and from northern Sweden. The company continues to grow its European network and is adding three new destinations from Swedavia's airports ahead of summer 2026.

For Umeå, the establishment means improved communications eastward. Helsinki functions as a hub for Finnair's wider flight network, opening new travel opportunities via Finland to, among other places, Asia.

Vaasa is Finland's sixth largest city and is located on the other side of the Kvarken. The direct connection simplifies things for business travelers and visitors between the regions, who have previously been dependent on detours via Stockholm or other hubs.

Umeå Airport already has regular connections to Stockholm, Luleå, and seasonal charter flights. Finnair's establishment is the first regular international route since the corona pandemic.

Tickets for the new routes can already be booked via Finnair's website and travel agencies. Flight times are adapted to enable day trips in both directions.
